When to use it
Our templates cover Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Proxmox VE, FreeBSD and Windows Server. For anything else — TrueNAS, OpenBSD, NixOS, a hardened distribution, a specific partition layout — boot the vendor’s ISO through virtual media. You can also order a server with “No OS — my own ISO”.
Step by step
- Open the KVM console from the client area.
- In the viewer, open Virtual Media and mount the ISO — from a URL, or by uploading the file.
- Reset the server and open the boot menu (often F11) during POST.
- Select the virtual CD/DVD drive and run the installer as you would locally.
- When the installation is done, unmount the ISO and reboot on the disk.
Network settings during installation
If the installer does not get an address automatically, enter the values shown on your server’s page in the client area: IPv4 address and netmask, gateway, and DNS resolvers. IPv6 can be added after installation — see Configuring IPv6.
Disks and RAID
The drives are presented individually (no hardware RAID controller), so you choose the layout: mdadm RAID in the installer, ZFS mirrors or RAID-Z, or a single disk. For Windows, use Storage Spaces or a mirrored volume.
