8 × 16 TB with 2 × 1.92 TB NVMe: about 96 TB usable in RAID-Z2, at a very low price per terabyte.
Hundreds of terabytes, off-site and yours
Backups belong somewhere else than production — ideally in another city and another jurisdiction. Our storage servers pack up to 308 TB of disks with NVMe cache into a single machine you fully control.
- 308 TBlargest raw capacity
- NVMecache and metadata
- ECCfor ZFS integrity

What this workload needsWorkload profile
- Capacity per dollarEnterprise hard drives remain the cheapest way to keep hundreds of terabytes online.
- IntegrityZFS checksums every block and ECC memory keeps the checksums honest. Scrubs catch silent corruption before a restore does.
- NVMe where it mattersNVMe for metadata, deduplication tables and the OS keeps a large pool responsive.
- A different placePut backups in a different city — and if you like, a different jurisdiction — from production.
The servers we would deploy for it
Chosen by the engineers who size these workloads every week. Every one of them is in stock.
14 × 22 TB with 2 × 7.68 TB NVMe and 32 EPYC cores: about 264 TB usable in RAID-Z2.
Advice from our engineers
The first hour on a new server decides how the next year goes.
Where to host it
Frankfurt, Helsinki and Bucharest host our storage servers — three cities, three countries, all within the EU.
Compare latency from your users- Use RAID-Z2 or RAID 6: with large drives, surviving two failures during a rebuild matters.
- Put metadata on NVMe with a mirrored special vdev on ZFS.
- Encrypt at the source (restic, Borg) so the backup server never sees clear data.
- Test restores monthly: a backup is only as good as its last successful restore.
Questions about backup & archives
Ask the engineers who run the servers — median first reply under 15 minutes, 24/7.
Contact usHow much usable space do I get?
In RAID-Z2, about 96 TB on the 128 TB server and about 264 TB on the 308 TB server, before compression.
Can I run TrueNAS or Proxmox Backup Server?
Yes. Proxmox VE is a template, and any other system boots from your own ISO through IPMI.
Is 1 Gbps enough for backups?
At line rate, 1 Gbps moves about 10 TB a day — enough for most off-site backups. A 10 Gbps port is available in Frankfurt.
